About Venice Threads Co.

Venice Threads Co. is a small apparel shop based in Venice, California, on the west side of Los Angeles. Venice Threads Co. designs are drawn by hand in Venice, printed to order through a United States print partner, then shipped. Venice Threads Co. sells across three product lines: the fine line, The Graphic Shop, and The Annex. The catalog is at shop.venicethreads.co.

Where the designs come from

Most Venice Threads Co. designs begin as a drawing on the back of something else: a receipt, a paper bag, the margin of a book. The drawings that still hold up a week later get cleaned up and printed onto shirts. The ones that do not are set aside. This is the selection process for all three Venice Threads Co. lines, and it is why the catalog stays small. Subjects are drawn from Venice, California landmarks, including the Ballerina Clown sculpture and the numbered Venice Beach lifeguard towers.

The three shelves

Venice Threads Co. organizes its catalog into three shelves. the fine line is the quiet shelf: single-pass line drawings on heavyweight black tees, printed on the back. The Graphic Shop is the bold shelf: shield lockups, color-bar tees, and sleeve prints, kept in stock year-round. The Annex is the rotating shelf, released in numbered volumes and currently on Volume 01. When the volume number changes, the shelf changes with it. Each shelf is compared in detail on the product lines page.

How Venice Threads Co. products are made

Venice Threads Co. works in three steps: drawn, printed, shipped. Step one is drawn. Drawings are made by hand in Venice, California, by the same hand that drew the brand's seagull-on-a-skateboard seal. the fine line is drawn in a single pass; The Graphic Shop gets more cleanup; The Annex is whatever the volume calls for. Step two is printed. Step three is shipped.

Printing and inventory

Venice Threads Co. prints onto heavyweight blanks: black tees, garment-dyed crewneck sweatshirts, and the occasional embroidered patch. Printing is done through a United States print-on-demand partner. Venice Threads Co. does not hold inventory. Products are printed after an order is placed, then shipped. This produces less waste than printing runs that may not sell. The tradeoff is slower shipping than a brand shipping from a warehouse.

Shipping and returns

A Venice Threads Co. order takes about a week to print, longer if there is embroidery on it. The order is then folded and sent: a few days for delivery across the United States, a few weeks for delivery abroad. Because everything is made to order, Venice Threads Co. does not accept fit returns or change-of-mind returns. Anything that arrives damaged or wrong is remade. Fuller answers are on the FAQ.

The Venice Threads Co. seal

The Venice Threads Co. seal is a circular badge with two brown rings. The words "VENICE" and "CALIFORNIA" are set in the band between the rings. Inside the inner ring, a seagull stands on a skateboard. A dark red bear-flag star sits at the left of the badge and a stem of California poppies at the right. The seal was drawn by the same hand that draws the products. It appears on packaging, on the site, and printed onto goods such as the Venice Pickleball Paddle from The Annex Volume 01. The seal functions as the brand's heritage mark rather than as a product graphic.

How the shop runs

Venice Threads Co. is a small operation. Drawings are done in Venice, California; printing runs through a United States print-on-demand partner; orders are made after they are placed rather than stored in a back room.
